Safety First for Binn Group

Safecontractor Award for Binn
  • Top safety accreditation for Binn Group
  • Commitment to Health & Safety recognised
  • Glenfarg industry leader joins elite group of accredited expert

Perthshire-based waste management and recycling experts, Binn Group, has been awarded accreditation from Safecontractor for its commitment to achieving excellence in Health & Safety.
Safecontractor is a leading third party accreditation scheme which recognises very high standards in Health & Safety management amongst UK contractors.

Based at Glenfarg and employing nearly 100 people, Binn Group is one of Scotland’s leading companies in the waste management and recycling sector supplying a complete circular economy service to both corporate and private clients.

Binn Group Commercial Manager Jim Brown expressed the company’s delight at securing the Safecontractor accreditation, which he said helped the industry to secure a uniform standard in key areas of operation.

“This recognition demonstrates our commitment to Health & Safety and should offer added piece of mind to our customers that they are working with a service provider who takes these extremely important issues seriously and puts the health and safety of our employees and customers at the forefront of everything we do,” he said. “This in turn will enhance Binn Group’s ability to attract new clients who place the same value on this commitment to service as we do.”
Under the Safecontractor scheme, businesses undergo a vetting process which examines health and safety procedures and their track record for safe practice. Those companies meeting the high standard are included on a database, which is accessible to registered users only via a website.

Over 210 major, nation-wide businesses, from several key sectors, have signed up to use the scheme when selecting contractors for a wide range of sectors, including food manufacture, property, facilities management and retail and leisure – all of which are big users of contracted services.

Signing up to use the database enables companies to vet potential contractors before they even set foot on site. These clients agree that, as users of the scheme, they will engage only those who have received accreditation. John Kinge, technical director of Safecontractor said: “Major organisations simply cannot afford to run the risk of employing contractors who are not able to prove that they have sound health and safety policies in place.

“More companies need to understand the importance of adopting good risk management in the way that Binn Group has done. The firm’s high standards have set an example which hopefully will be followed by other companies within the sector.”
