Binn Group is trialling a new on-board calibrated weighing system on two of its trade waste collection vehicles. If successful, the hi-tech system could be rolled out to the rest of the Binn Group trade fleet.
Company transport manager Mark Cairns explained that the computerised equipment meant all bins handled by the vehicles were weighed both before and after emptying, feeding immediate and accurate data into the online system.
“Weight thresholds and charges for excess weight are accepted as normal practice and it’s therefore important to have an accurate record of how much is in each bin,” explained Mark. “Customers can receive a printed copy of the data and this helps them to monitor their own environmental performance and ensure compliance with waste regulations.”
The weighing equipment is accurate to 0.5 percent and is currently operational on the vehicles serving Perthshire, Dundee, Angus, Fife and Stirlingshire.
